Vacation Rental Listings: Longer Descriptions mean more Enquiries

Advertise Your Vacation Rental

Data from Flipkey indicates that vacation rental listings with more detailed descriptions generate more enquiries.

Vacation rental listings with description of more than 2,000 characters generate 54% more enquiries than those listings with descripions of 500 characters.

Using a baseline of 500 words, the breakdown of enquiries is as follows:

Vacation rental listings with descriptions of more than 2,000 characters generate 54% more enquiries

Vacation rental listings with descriptions of 1,000 to 2,00 characters generate 20% more enquiries

Vacation rental listings with description of 500 to 1,000 characters generate 16% more enquiries

Vacation rental listings with description of less than 500 characters generate 10% less enquiries

Of course, there may be other factors as play. For example, vacation rental listings with longer descriptions may also tend to have more vacation rental photos or a more engaged owner.

However, having a detailed description of your vacation rental in your listing, particularly one that describes the amenities available, may help your vacation rental to stand out from others in your location.

Hence, I would recommend you take a look at the descriptions you are using to see if you can add some more detail. Even if it generates only 1 extra booking for your vacation rental, it will be well worth it!

The FlipKey numbers refer to characters not words. So descriptions with 2000 or more characters receive more inquiries. That's a big difference.

Pawel, you are correct and I have updated the posting to say "characters" rather than "words". Thanks for catching this!
